(Okay, so the real lyric is "rainy day" but there was no rain...)

I liked today. It didn't get off to a wonderful start, what with being woken at 7.30 by Raz going to bed. Kind of early for a weekend, I usually don't get up until, ooh, 8.30 or so. But stumbling into the office I put on the computer and found Ang sitting online so we chatted for a while as I woke up, discussing the merits of tuna and mayo sandwiches for breakfast.

Easing into the day thusly left me ready to get on with the tasks I'd set myself. I wrote letters regarding council tax and water at my new house, and I wrote to let the current property managers know that I'm outta here soon. Then I went into town to post the letters and sort out an Argos store card. It was a glorious sunny day and the trees are all budding and there are daffodils everywhere. I went out in a T shirt with no coat and didn't regret it. This is a GOOD day in Fleet, town of endless rain. I bought bits and pieces for the house and an Easter egg for Raz (Sin would have gotten one if he hadn't disappeared up north for the Easter break).

Back home Ang and I scrabbled away on Literati (a miserable loss on my part) then I went to watch the last of the newly received Buffy episodes from America before getting on with some more packing. Fun and accomplishment in one day. I'm impressed with myself whether anyone else is or not.

I even took pictures. )

I've just found a strange little lump in my wrist. I think it's a ganglion. Don't know what a ganglion is? Neither did I, really, until I did some web searching. There's a site here that reveals all. Scroll down the page to the penultimate image and that's the location of this odd little lump. It's only tiny - about three milimetres diameter, but it's a lump and it's in my wrist. I don't want weird shit going on with my wrist... All the web sites say it's harmless and doesn't need any real attention if it's a ganglion cyst but once I move and get a new doctor then this is going to be drawn to their attention. I'm 28! Doesn't my body know it's supposed to last another 50 years or so? I can do without strange new protrusions, excess weight and teeth that decide to dig themselves firmly into one another, thank you very much.

You can tell winter's over when the ice-cream vans come out in force. We switch to summertime over the weekend and it's stopped raining at last.

I've just had two phonecalls from my solicitor. The contracts have now been exchange and the completion date - 10th April - is now unable to slip any further. I really am buying a house. Two weeks from now it will be mine.

The fact that two people in the office are now humming my ringtone (the Tetris music) is entirely inconsequential.

Sickie

I didn't go into work today. By this morning I didn't feel too bad, but last night I slept really badly. I was way too hot under the blankets and too cold outside of them. Even with just a sheet over me I was too hot, and my throat was sore and dry, whilst the water I was drinking didn't seem to affect it. I think I slept for about an hour all together and there's no way I'm going to work on one hour's sleep. Besides, I'm still hot and I expect if I actually owned a thermometer to use then I'd find I had a high temperature.

So I dozed (still couldn't sleep properly) until midday, then fiddled around with the Gameboy Advance a little before turning to Buffy. Comfort TV. I'm feeling pretty exhausted, but I'm not going to doze again because I'm determined to get a proper sleep tonight.

Purchases

I'm a marketing department's dream. I bought Gavin's Gameboy Advance system off him and it should arrive tomorrow. I decided I wanted an extra game to go with it and wandered into WH Smiths. Where they had an offer on all the Gameboy games. Buy two, get one free. So I did. Gah!

I got Columns Crown, Golden Sun and (wait for it) Scrabble! Ha! I shall become invincible, I have no need of you puny human opponents!

Workless

This is crazy. 10.45 on a Monday morning and I've run out of work again. I mean, there will be more coming through, but all I had in my queue to do this morning was fix three typos. There was some challenge to it, in finding the particular files that contained the typos but it's done now. In fact, it's been done for the last 25 minutes. I got here at 9.20 and since each bug is defined in terms of hours, I've apparantly done three hours work.

And they wanted me to come in at the weekend to make sure we were on top of the project. Thank ghu they weren't insistant.

So now what am I meant to do with myself? sigh

I wear black. Maybe the odd bit of white an some grey. Other colours now and then just to offset it a bit, but mostly black. Ask anyone what colour most of my clothing is and they'll say black if they've met me. I like black. At Corflu they had T shirts available to buy, just like pretty much any other convention tends to have. The reason I didn't buy one immediately is this: They are pink.

Not strong "I am Barbie, hear me roar" type pink, more yer sort of "I think maybe that red sock shouldn't have been washed with the whites" kind of pink. Far from subtle and quite definitely pink.

As the convention wore on I decided that I'd like a memento (good film!) of the event and that it could be relegated to nightwear anyway. So I bought one. I believe it is the only pink item I own. It has a cool, non-cutesy picture on the front - a Steve Stiles image.

I've been wearing it as a nightshirt and having passed mirrors in my night attire from time to time I have been forced to face the horrific possibility that pink may actually quite suit me.

Stamps

Once upon a time stamps were perforated sheets of gummed paper. They were perforated in order to let you pull them apart more easily before licking them.

Now many stamps come in the form of stickers which don't require licking or dampening to stick to envelopes. However, they are still the same shape with edges that give the impression of something that has been separated from a perforated sheet.

Why?

Gaming

Inspired by the frequent bouts of Literati with [livejournal.com profile] ang_grrr and [livejournal.com profile] ajr I went out and bought Scrabble Deluxe today. It's lovely. And I can say as much without even having unwrapped it as yet.

Why haven't I unwrapped it? Because I've been busy playing another game - Buffy. And boy, is it complicated. I think by the end of it Raz and I had wrapped our heads around what we were meant to be doing and we could probably manage to get through a whole game again without having to consult the instructions. But maybe not.

Ouch

After tidying some more and packing and moving stuff around I amassed a pile of things I didn't want and decided to give them to the charity shop. Only, in carrying them I think I've strained a muscle. I hope that's what it is. If it's not then I've probably collapsed a lung or something.

Good Day

Mar. 21st, 2002 10:51 pm

The day started well, and then carried on quite well, and although it's not quite over it's still going well.

- The train was on time
- The rain held off all day
- I had a reasonable amount of work to do and it was suitably challenging (why DOES the password reset page required you to put your password in to access it?)
- We (colleagues) went out for lunch and got served quickly
- We had free cookies available in the afternoon
- I got a pay rise (tiny, as expected, but who's complaining?) and a bonus (ditto) detailed in a letter that was finally given to us today
- I reached the train station at just the right time to get on a train
- I caught up on rasseff after a week of being behind (this will last until I check for new posts and no longer, but right now the news pool is empty)
- I played Scrabble (Yahoo literati if you're being pedantic) and won

I think I may temporarily be living someone else's life. Mine isn't usually this good. But I like this one. I think I'll keep it.

This is just plain frightening. You know when you hit that random link and you get a journal so bizarre you wonder who this person's friends could possibly be - whether they even HAVE friends? Well, now you can find out which of your friends' friends' friends' knows them.
