Oh, NTL were their usual incompetent selves, sending me half the required bits to plug in and then offering a paid for support line that left me on hold for around an hour. However they have learnt enough to offer status reports as part of the hold cycle which clued me in on it not being worth staying on hold several times. Apart from that it was many instances of rebooting, retrying and EVENTUALLY, just as I was trying again for the hell of it whilst listening to the hold music it all started working.
So long as nothing big goes wrong NTL are okay. When things go wrong they go into headless chicken mode and appear to make stupid decisions. Anyone who has needed the customer support probably needed it for such reasons and hence the general feedback for NTL is poor. When things DO work it's wonderful. I missed my always-on net access, even though I was too busy to take advantage of it anyway.
