Darts

I'm really not very good at darts. I'd not played before until a few months ago when I gave it a try while out with [livejournal.com profile] cdave. I wasn't very good but I was improving. My first dart would fly wild but with the next two I could correct the mistakes and get closer to my target.

Last night I went out with [livejournal.com profile] adelheid and [livejournal.com profile] cdave and discovered I've managed to get worse at darts. Now I can't correct the errors as well as I could the first time around. I was bad.

I was really bad.

I was stabbed-myself-in-the-chest bad.

I'm planning a halloween and a half party at the end of April (26th). That's a halloween party six months away from halloween.

I'm also thrilled to discover that Gunther Von Hagen's Body World exhibition is coming back to the UK and will be in Manchester between late Feb and early summer so I'll be planning at least one trip to that.

Which, of course, means a poll.

I'm awake

I feel much better now. I went to bed at 11.30 and got up at 6.30. I know it's only 7 hours but that's good, for me. Getting up at 6.30 on a weekday is a lie in as far as I'm concerned.

I still got into work before 90% of the rest of 'em as well. And I get out early tonight because of this wine tasting and meal thing which I'm thinking more and more of just skipping. I wouldn't mind the meal but it's the hassle of getting to it and getting back home and I didn't set the VCR tonight. As for the wine tasting, I only signed up to go to that when it got to the last chance to make the decision and everyone was saying "Go on, it'll be a laugh." Well, maybe it will for those who drink the wine, but that's not going to be me. And no matter how much fun it is I am positive it's not going to live up to the fun of last weekend. So I might just disappear when everyone goes over to Vinopolis (however it's spelt).

It looks like I might have to get used to having a social life as well - got home to find the diary details of the Peterborough SF group last night, I'm planning for the Hampshire gang to come over one weekend, I've got a holiday to plan and I'm having vague thoughts about a house warming. It's all go and I'm enjoying it.

We have a meeting this morning to find out what project we're on next and when it begins. This may yet kill my good mood. Updates later.

Wanna know why there are no spoilers about the Lord of the Rings film in here? It's because we haven't seen it. Not for want of trying. However, it turns out to be a bad idea to go and see the most popular film around on its opening weekend when that weekend is also the weekend before Christmas. Two cinemas showing the film more regularly than hourly and we still couldn't get in. Oh well.

I'm feeling terribly inadequate already, anyway, not having read the books. I'm sure several people I know would be aghast to discover this, so don't tell 'em I said anything.

Chances are I won't be around much online until after Christmas now, so have a good one, merry, happy, joyous etc etc

Weird Week

It's been an odd few days. Last time you heard from me was before I got busy packing and organising myself for Novacon.

Novacon was wonderful. I spent time with acquaintances and turned them into friends and got to know more face and name combinations. I also picked up a coffee habit and wound up feeling healthier and happier than I have in a good while.

But of course, the drudgery of work came back to haunt me and I've not felt up to anything much over the past couple of days. I've been aiming any writing in directions other than the journal but I thought it was time to get back into it.

There were no fireworks for us this year. At least, not in the proper, traditional sense of watching a bonfire and seeing the full display. The best we got was those rogue examples that flew high enough over neighbours' houses for us to watch. I'd have liked to go and watch a proper display but we didn't manage it, mainly due to not being a real part of the local community. We don't know anyone and we don't know the familiar names for the local area. There were signs all over the place, flaunting the fact that some place called The Meadows was having a display on Saturday night - but who knows where that is?

So we spent Saturday evening over at Ruddy and Karen's place, just watching TV. Sunday, the highlight of the evening was the televising of Scream 2. And this evening I'm sitting home in front of the computer, pretty much like any other average night.

Since I spend so much time in front of it, I figured I'd take a break from the money-must-be-saved-for-a-house-deposit ethos and spend some cash upgrading it. I'll get to play my few games at a decent speed and also stand a chance of playing new ones that come out. It will give Photoshop and its ilk a much needed boost as well.
