Fitness

hawkida: (Default)
I'm trying to get fitter. This is hampered a bit by my initial attempts injuring my foot.

However, I've invested in some kettlebells which I'm using in a largely unscientific manner to some effect, and I'm using our exercise bike and rowing machine a bit.

Also, on Saturday I helped a friend move house.

As a result of much of the above, I did very little yesterday due to exhaustion.

This morning, to rest my foot further, I chose to use my real bike to take me to the station instead of walking. Man, am I out of practice! I used to ride triple that distance and not feel it when I lived in Peterborough. I shall persevere!

My aims are to improve my cadiovascular ability, improve upper body strength, and shed fat. Easter did not aid with the latter goal.

Well, work is work like but could have been worse. Journey in was hellish. Train diverted, then there were no tubes from London Bridge. Or rather, there were, they just wouldn't let us near them because of overcrowding on other lines.

This evening I have been cycling round the Misfits lake. Turns out you can't get all the way around easily because of some building work down one edge. It was pretty cool though. And I think I could see bits of the Thames from the north side. I should visit again when it's not so dark. I may cycle again on Thursday, if so it'll probably be a trip to Lesnes Abbey.

Since there is no exercise in my commute any more I should be doing about an hour to make up for it after work, but I know that's ridiculously ambitious given that I'm out of the house for close to 12 hours, and need to allow some time for silly trivial things like eating and sleeping. Going to try to fit in 30 minutes a day anyway. And possibly do some walking during lunchtime.

My poor legs! And feet! And heart!

Jungle Book groove party is HARD! Especially when you have barely any sense of rhythm (that'd be me, then).

I've got windows open and I'm downing water like a mad thing. But hey, it's fun. And it's good for me.

I posted earlier in some comments section somewhere about how I figured eating just half my pizza and using the Playstation dancemat constitute something approaching a healthy lifestyle. But actually, the only thing I did yesterday that is out of the ordinary is use the dancemat (sorry, I can't bring myself to call it a Rave Station) and Jungle Book Groove Party and today I'm feeling all energised and cheery. This is good. So tonight I will beat Baloo. I might even move up beyond "normal" level. I've been out and bought a PS1 memory card since the PS2 one I already own isn't happy to save from a PS1 game. Oversight on Sony's part or deliberate ploy to make people buy more peripherals? Hmm...

Sun!

hawkida: (Default)
The sun came out today in Fleet. After about a week or two of seemingly solid rain. It was dry in London a lot of the time, but every morning and every evening Fleet has been wet and dreary. Sometimes the rain would stop, but not long enough for the ground to dry.

Today I saw the sky again at last. I could even appreciate the view of the train station, one of my least favourite places, with the sun down low early in the morning across the pond.

With the brightness and dry ground came cold. But I didn't mind that - it makes walking a lot more pleasant when you can walk at a decent speed and not wind up all sweaty and uncomfortable.

I bet it rains again tomorrow.

Tired

It's been a busy day. Deadline at work, stuff to do online on the night, continuing mortgage sorting. And then the highly important Dark Angel viewing tonight. (Although series 2 just isn't coming off as well as series 1 did.)

I've upped my walking quota. Weekdays I spend around 1.5 hours walking. 15 minutes at each end of the day to and from the station, plus 30 minutes or so from Waterloo to work. My legs are protesting a little but they'll get used to it. Probably.

Consequently I'm knackered and signing off.

Quiet

hawkida: (Default)
It's quiet right now and I'm feeling pleased with myself. I've tidied the living room (and boy, did it need it) and done twenty minutes on the rowing machine. I always accompany the rowing with loud music because it drowns out the squeak of the machine that probably needs some proper oil and isn't too impressed with WD40. It's perhaps the main time that I listen to music and it adds some enthusiasm to the otherwise mundane task of working myself into a sweat.

Consequently, when I stop and switch off the music everything is quiet and calm. Particularly so tonight. Raz went off to join in the delights of Luigi's mansion again and I decided to stay home to clear up. So it's just the hum of the machines and the quiet clattering of the keyboard. Peace. Ah.
